Indefinite hiatus + what's next

I’m finally about to graduate, and with this new chapter in my life I thought it was time to evaluate my ongoing creative projects, in particular Sinfonia. This is a game that’s been near and dear to my heart for many years, and the support I have received towards it has been overwhelmingly positive both online and in real life. I’m incredibly thankful for all the encouragement I have been given, especially from those who almost a decade later have still been patiently waiting for it.

I have had the game’s full script finished and even beta read since 2018, but the production became troubled largely due to my own difficult life situation at the time, as well as the engine I initially chose to use. By the time I had learned to use another engine and began porting the game over, I was faced with the reality that Sinfonia had become horribly outdated both in its art and writing departments — which makes sense, given how it’s been almost a decade since I started. There are many things in the game that I didn’t know how to handle with enough tact at the time, as well as creative decisions I simply wouldn’t make today. And as I began rewriting the script I realized that rather than break the game into pieces and put it together all over again, I should give it a proper rest — at least for now.

I think, in some form or another, I will one day be posting the story of Sinfonia in its entirety for people to read. Right now, however, I need to admit to myself that it’s not something I can do anytime soon, and that there are other stories I also want to tell that better align with the person I am today. Truthfully, I can’t tell when I’ll return back to Sinfonia, but I have a feeling that eventually I will — but until then, I’d like to thank everyone for all the kindness and patience both Sinfonia and I have received. I hope that one day in the far future I can deliver a project I can be truly proud of, and that my future projects may provide something of value, too.

WHAT NEXT?

I’ll be focusing on FISH HOOK, a horror-adjacent visual novel taking place in the same world and time period as Sinfonia, though with no direct connections to any of the characters featured in that game. I’m currently working on finishing the designs of all the characters, so expect to learn more about it in the near future! It’ll also have a shorter companion work called FISH THING that’ll be presented either as a novella or a visual novel after FISH HOOK is completed.

I also want to finish HOMUNCULUS, my small test VN from 2022 that I also have almost finished. For the most part, however, I’ll be focusing on FISH HOOK, and will try to form myself a regular working schedule for it once I get my personal life stabilized and in order.
